What is Yoga ?
Yoga is a complete science of human life itself, with its origins dating back several thousands of years ago in India. It is the most ancient and the most complete system for human development that has ever existed.
It takes into account:
- The body
- The mind
- The spirit or consciousness
Literally, the word yoga comes from the sanskrit word « yug », meaning to yolk or to unite.
The ultimate goal of Yoga, as long as it is practiced with its full and original intention, is to allow for the “individual” consciousness to “melt” into universal consciousness (or the Absolute, God, Supreme Being, etc.) and to remain in peace and joy.
In fact, all our life we have been deeply conditioned to believe that we are separate entities, with separate individual consciousness, and that our consciousness was born out of a brain in a human body, and is susceptible to all the changes and sufferings of its host. We have never questioned this belief of being separate and have lived with a persistant feeling of lack, incompleteness and fear of death.
Yoga teaches us from our own sensitive experience and not merely by intellectual analysis that our consciousness IS, and in reality is truly intemporal and limitless, thus universal. When this understanding becomes alive in our experience, we realize our true nature and a whole new way of living and seeing reality can start for us. Life becomes anchored in peace and unconditioned happiness, true creativity can therefore emerge using our body and mind as tools for its full expression.
Yoga is well suited to our modern society and life style and does not require any religious rituals and beliefs. On the contrary, Yoga is a true science for human life, leading man to its natural freedom and happiness.
The benefits of Yoga are multifold :
- Flexibility of the body
- Vitality and youth
- Quiet and happy mind
- Peace and joy for living
- Realisation of one’s true nature
- Creativity
